The best way to make someone laugh on their birthday is to think about what they like and hate, and make a joke about it. The most important thing is to consider what sort of joke they would appreciate, otherwise you could make the mistake of giving them something that offends them.
Introduction
If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that you’re buying a gift for someone who has a sense of humour. If so, you’ve come to the right place – I’ve got loads of useful advice to help you decide what sort of card they would like. Or maybe it’s not a card that you want? Maybe you want some kind of special treat? Either way I can help.
The two things to consider when choosing a gift or card
OK yes there are a few things to think about, but it really boils down to two: the sort of person they are and how well you know them. Let me explain.
The sort of person
There are lots of dimensions here, but for now let’s just focus on two:
- Whether or not they have a sense of humour
- Whether or not they will be offended by anything
I suppose there’s also the question of whether or not they’ll appreciate the gift, but that doesn’t really matter does it? It’s all about whether we enjoy giving it. At least it is for me.
I don’t think I can do this on my own – I’m going to need your help. You know this person better than I do; you just need to have a think about what sort of person they are.
How well do you know them?
This is important because if the card is from someone who doesn’t know them very well it will have less impact. Think about it; if a card says something like ‘I’d love to tickle your bits’, it would mean something very different coming from a colleague compared with their partner.
What do you want to achieve?
This might sound like an odd question but bear with me – I’ll explain what I mean. Firstly, do you want them to feel loved or insulted? Or maybe both? This is an important question because what sort of message you choose will depend on this.
Make them feel loved (but also insulted)
You probably think that this is an odd combination, but it isn’t really. It’s definitely possible (and easy) to create something that will make them feel loved and insulted at the same time. Just take some time and read some examples in my other article ‘the best rude birthday cards’.
Ok yes that was just an excuse to shoehorn in another link, but whatever…
Insulting them with feeling (without being loving)
If this is what you want, then you're basically trying to hurt their feelings which isn't very nice - I'm sure you're not actually looking for this sort of thing. If so, just buy any sort of normal generic gift - that's guaranteed to make anyone feel they're unloved. This is yet another excuse for me to recommend another one of my articles: 'best generic gifts'. This is honestly quite funny - I enjoyed writing it and have read it several times since. Ok yes that's weird - nobody ever reads their own articles after they've written them, but whatever; it's funny so go read it. The link isn't even obvious as it's hidden in those weird blue words above somewhere... Or maybe you've already read it as it's one of my more popular articles? Who knows? Not me.
Making them feel loved without being insulting
This one's easier than you'd expect - in fact it's surprisingly easy. Just buy some boring normal thing from anywhere - that'll work perfectly. Actually that's probably true; if someone receives something boring and generic they're likely to be confused and probably a little disappointed too. So yeah; buy something boring and generic! As long as they're not too stupid they'll realise it's meant as some kind of joke. Probably.
Making them feel nothing at all
This is easier than you'd imagine too - just buy any normal boring product from one of those big online retailers or high street shops. Actually that's not fair as some high street shops sell pretty good stuff, and I'm sure there are some small independent online retailers who sell dull things too. Either way if your aim is for your recipient not feel anything at all then any old normal thing will do - just don't bother thinking about it; just pick something random and send it.
What sort of card should I get?
A boring one?
I suppose there are people out there who actually want this - I've no idea why though; if you're going through the effort or spending money on sending a gift why would you make sure it's really dull? That doesn't make sense does it? Yeah ok it'll be easy for you because there are plenty around, but whatever; don't be silly.
A funny one?
This makes much more sense doesn't it? You get something funnier out of picking the right thing, plus your recipient gets more enjoyment out receiving it. That's win-win isn't it?!
I suppose it's win-win-win because there's also whoever else gets involved when buying/sending/receiving the thing...
Conclusion
Whatever your recipient likes I've got plenty for every type of person so you'll find something here.
Whether they're silly or serious, loving or hateful I'm sure you'll find something they'll love.
If you're not convinced then just look at my home page where there are lots
of options shown.
Oh wait no that's not true!
I've only put three products on the home page which isn't very helpful really.
Luckily though there's that little 'shop' link at the top which takes you everywhere.
Click that and you'll see all sorts including gifts for loving people,
selfish people, rude people etc etc.
Ok so we're talking about gifts for 'funny' people here; how do we define 'funny'?
That's difficult because there's no clear definition;
I suppose if someone enjoys doing silly things then they're funny.
Hmmm... maybe I'll investigate this further and write an article about it;
maybe by writing it'll help me understand.
So anyway yeah click on 'shop' in the menu at the top (or bottom)
and have a look around!
Let me know if you need any help :)
