Why birthday gifts are fun and funny

Table of Contents

Overview

Birthday gifts are fun because they show that someone cares about you, and funny because some people like to give light-hearted silly gifts.

What makes a gift fun?

I think a person has to feel something about the gift, if it doesn't trigger any kind of emotion then it's a bit of a waste of time. I suppose it could just be the fact that it's a surprise, but I think it's more than that. Some people say it's just about the appreciation, but I don't think that's enough either. I mean yes, we all want to be appreciated, but it's not enough in itself.

I think perhaps it's just that you get to experience something new. New experiences are always fun, or at least interesting, even if you don't like them. It's something different to what you're used to.

However (and this is a big however) if the gift is something like some random personal care product from Boots or Superdrug then it can make you feel a bit unwanted if anything.

What makes a gift funny?

If you're asking this question then perhaps you'd be better off buying your friends some air freshener or a candle because your sense of humour probably isn't up to the job. Sorry.

But for those of us who do understand what humour is, there are two main reasons why gifts can be funny:

  • The gift itself is inherently weird, for example it might be in the shape of something that's normally considered 'naughty' or 'gross'.
  • The person receiving the gift would not normally use it, for example if they have no hair on their head and you buy them hair conditioner.

What kind of gifts are best?

I think I'd have to say something that makes you laugh, because even if you don't use it at least it made you happy when you received it. This does rather depend on whether or not you have a sense of humour though; as we all know there are plenty of very serious people out there who seem to have lost their sense of humour as part of growing up.

The other thing is that it's much more memorable for both parties; it's great for the receiver because they get something unusual and different, but also good for the buyer because they get to see someone laugh which generally makes everybody happy.

After 25+ years juggling IT and management, Dan realized that many people (including friends, family, and coworkers) were grappling with anxiety and stress brought on by modern life. Determined to offer some comic relief, he founded Mr. Inappropriate, an online store for wonderfully rude and funny adult gifts and cards. Through weekly true stories, naughty product lines, and genuine one-on-one connections with customers, Dan’s mission is to help people safely push social boundaries, share a good laugh, and discover that being a bit “inappropriate” can be surprisingly therapeutic. A proud Yorkshire resident, Dan remains steadfast in his belief that humour is one of the best ways to escape the pressures of everyday life, and that a well-timed, mischievous gift can often o more good than any pill.
