How to have fun at Christmas 2025

Good question. The answer’s different for everyone. For some it’s all about the presents, for others it’s about the food and for some it’s just a time to take a breather and let go a bit.

For me it’s mostly about the food. I love stuffing myself, lying on the sofa feeling like a beached whale and then farting so much that I can’t tell whether I need to go to the toilet or not.

I suppose it depends on what you’re into. If you’ve got any kind of dietary issues then maybe you’ll enjoy eating loads of something else, or maybe just having a warm drink and relaxing by yourself somewhere.

Or maybe you’re someone who loves organising everything perfectly and then sitting back and admiring your work?

Or maybe you get excited about giving people gifts?

What excites you?

I think this is what it comes down to; what is it that really gets you excited? What do you look forward to more than anything else? For many people it’ll be something that they don’t normally allow themselves. It could be eating too much, drinking too much or just being lazy (that one’s my favourite).

Of course for most of us we are allowed these things normally but we don’t let ourselves because we think we probably shouldn’t. The beauty of Christmas is that it gives us an excuse. We can eat/drink/relax too much and justify it by telling ourselves “it’s ok, I know I don’t usually but come on, it’s Christmas”.

Why do we need an excuse?

This is something that has always confused me; why do we need some kind of reason or excuse to do something that we enjoy? Why isn’t ‘because it makes me happy’ enough?

I think this comes from our upbringing. From a young age we’re taught that we mustn’t do things like eat too much, drink too much or relax too much. We have to work hard and make sure we’re doing the right thing and the only time we can relax is when someone gives us permission.

This is why so many people look forward to weekends, holidays or even lunch breaks; because they’re moments when they’re allowed to stop doing what they should be doing and do what they want for a bit.

What are you supposed to be doing?

Now this is where (in my opinion) there is a flaw in our collective way of thinking; why should there be something specific that I should be doing? Why do I have to spend my time in any particular way?

You might say “well because you need to earn money so you don’t starve” which is true but if you look at how most people spend their time there’s very little chance of them starving if they were to relax a bit more than usual.

Poor Santa

It seems like he gets all the pressure put on him at this time of year as he has to travel round delivering presents everywhere while everyone else gets to relax.

I wonder if he enjoys it though? Maybe he enjoys flying around in his sleigh with his reindeer friends – after all he only does this once a year so I guess it makes sense that he might enjoy running around doing stuff while everyone else just sits around being useless.

The other option

If relaxing isn’t your thing then maybe try something new this year; maybe run around trying on all sorts of fun different stuff – literally or metaphorically. Maybe try out some different ways of behaving, dressing or whatever takes your fancy.

Thank you for reading!
